John and I went for a beautiful walk this morning. I am back to walking 3 miles a day, just a lot more slowly than usual. It’s my favorite part of the day, which more than makes up for the fact that I end up spending the rest of the day sitting because I wore out my feet. Actually, it’s my abdomen that is bothered by standing. There’s a lot of muscle work that goes into supporting my gut even though there’s a lot less of it than there was before surgery.
For those of you who celebrate it, I wish you a very Happy Easter. For those of you who don’t, I wish you a very Happy Sunday. For my blog buddies in Australia and New Zealand, I wish you a Happy Monday!
What a beautiful view… What a wonderful walk to be able to do… Having a Happy Monday!
I am very lucky to live so close to our beautiful sea and mountains. Our spring weather has been amazingly beautiful! I’m glad you are having a Happy Monday!
Happy Easter to you too. I think if I am ever in the situation of trying to tell someone what the reconstruction process is like, they just need to read your blog – it has brought back so many memories of my surgery and recovery and I am so thankful that I have done it. I meet my plastic surgeon next week and will no doubt talk about a nipple or not, as well as the lopsidedness I have in my saggy breastfed four children breast!
Love love love seeing the mountains – we lived near UW and I would often walk the Burke gilman trail to the fountain and look down the vista at Mt Rainier. One never get used to seeing those mountains in all their splendour.
It is Easter Monday, a public holiday here in NZ. Unfortunately hubby has been at the hospital all day as he is on call now, a face and jaw surgeon. He had hoped to go fishing and have some down time but it won’t be happening today. Glorious sunshine here so am about to head back out in to the garden to get one of the ends ready for planting – bulbs and primroses over the winter.
Take care, it’s great to hear you are getting more mobile. I have found Pilates has helped with its gentle stretching and strengthening of the core. I did pink Pilates first as the instructor knew about what had been done with the surgery and could tailor the programme to work on problem areas. Just a thought. Catherine
Hi Catherine,
Thank you for the compliment about my blog!
We are having wonderful weather, too. I will be so happy to get back to my garden in a month or two, to be back doing the easy stuff. I’ve been trying to avoid digging and pruning since there is a lot of leverage involved and my mastectomy was on my dominant side.
I grew up in the suburbs of Seattle and have lived in this area my whole life except for 9 years while I was getting my Ph.D., internship, and post-doc done. And you are right, one never tires of the beauty of the mountains and the sea.
I have considered Pilates, on and off, but have not yet given it a try. I know that I will need to work on my abdominal muscles for recovery as well as to compensate for my lost muscle. I so love my outdoor walking because it not only makes me physically stronger, but it is so calming for my mind, even when the weather has been cold and rainy. My plan for now is to continue walking and then in three weeks, resume the abdominal exercises I did prior to surgery. After awhile, I can reassess my needs and see if I need to make adjustments to my routine.
Good luck with your upcoming plastic surgery appointment. There are lots of decisions to make!

Hi Elizabeth – It sounds like you all had a beautiful Easter. The boys and I are keeping you in our thoughts and prayers as your body continues to heal. We all tried to keep busy this weekend. Not only was it Easter yesterday, but it was also my Dad’s birthday plus we lost him one year ago today. My Mom and I fixed a nice meal for everyone and we enjoyed being together. Give John and Zoey our best. Love, Robin
You are in our prayers too, Robin.
Happy (day after) Easter! Glad you were able to get out into the glorious weather.
Thanks, Lisa. I loved Asta’s Easter attire. I hope you had a nice day, as well.
Your blog is great as always. Loved seeing you yesterday. My efforts with a gluten-free strata were less than successful but Deb had enough delicious food to fill us.
I am preparing a soup today which I promise will be delicious. (for our lunch). I was able to find some fresh chives & oregano in the yard to add to the mix.
Have a great day.
