As you may know, I have been tracking my daily walks since 12/2/12. Earlier this week, I passed the 400 mile mark (644 K). Today, I did a 6 mile (9.7 K) walk I have been wanting to be able to work toward for a long time but thought the earliest I’d be ready for it would be next fall. The walk is from our house to Lincoln Park, which is on the Puget Sounds and faces the beautiful Olympic Mountains, which is the lesser known of the two mountain ranges in our state. The walk is not just longer than my usual walk but it is quite hilly. John took us an indirect, switchback route so that it wasn’t an unrelenting climb.
The park and the walk were beautiful. We saw a seal pup on a wooden float off in the distance. In the 13 years we’ve visited the park this was a first time sighting for us. John and I really enjoyed this time together.
Beautiful!!! With scenery like this, I’m not surprised that you met your goal 6 months early!
It is a beautiful part of the world on a particularly glorious day.
Beautiful… We have a coastal walk here from Bondi Beach to Bronte… My goal is to be able to do this again!! Maybe I will start with bits of it!!! Phone pictures are better than non !
Starting a little bit at a time sounds like a great plan, Helen. I just Googled Bondi Beach. Wow, what a beautiful, sandy beach. Beaches in my state tend to be rocky and filled with drift wood. They are also beautiful, though.
Isn’t there a mile long sandy beach near Longview..or am I dreaming?
No, you are right about Long Beach. I should have written that “most” of our beaches are rocky.
I think the Long Beach Peninsula is a 28 mile stretch of sandy beaches.
What a wonderful accomplishment, and what a great thing for you and John to do together. You must be proud and energized by this feat!
Yes and Yes!
Walk sounds great. The view on the way is so beautiful. I would have a tough time with the hilly part, but Dad & I may try it some time. Not with you….no way we could keep up with you and John.
You could do the walk down to the park and then we could pick you up and drive you back. The views on the way down are the best.
Wow, what a milestone, you strong thing, you. And a seal pup!!!!! After first learning about your app, I found one for my phone, too — I think it’s called Map My Walk. Love it.
Aren’t those apps cool? I started using mine because I knew I would need something to keep me exercising once I met my weight loss goal. I am very good at losing weight but not so good at maintaining it. And exercise had been something I hadn’t regularly engaged in since 1997.
I’m so glad you’re walking, too. I wished we lived closer and could walk together.
