I have a confession to make. I am afraid of a number. The number is 2017.
Actually it’s not only fear. I also feel an upswell of action. An eagerness to serve and fight the fight of righteousness.
A man, who would be a cartoon villain in an alternate universe, is going to be the President of the United States of America, in just under three weeks.
He is one man. He has his uniquely unqualified staff with him. He has his ridiculously ridiculous fingers that Tweet ridiculously ridiculous sequences of characters.
He is one person. We are many.
This is not a fight I wanted to fight but fight I will.
The pen is mightier than the sword.
The vote is mightier than the Tweet.
See you at the marches.
The path to peace often makes more than a ripple.
Sometimes we need a splash of peace.
Other times, a tsunami of peace is what is needed.
I share your fear. It’s hard to live with, and yet, living through cancer has certainly taught me a few things. One of them is that we’re not alone. ❤
We are not alone and we are many. And we are smart. Ultimately, if we can hang onto that and keep working, we will prevail.
Looking on from across the pond, I can understand your feelings, but i have a lot of hope that innate goodness will triumph in the end.
Marie, I believe that goodness will triumph in the end. I think women are going to have a lot to do with it and we may end up turning iconic pink on its head. The Women’s March on Washington is on January 21st and there are many smaller women’s marches on that day in other U.S. cities, including my own. The national march organizers have encouraged women to make and wear “pussy hats”, pink hats with ears. I went to my local yarn shop on Friday to pick up my own hat supplies. They were nearly out of pink! They said that they had never sold so much pink before. I think these marches are going to have a lot of people at them. My husband is going to be at my side at the Seattle march. It’s designed as a silent march, which I think is wise. It lowers the risk of violence and evokes the Civil Rights era marches. There will be photos and a post for sure!
